I think the U.S. has a very bad healthcare system. I personally cannot afford any kind of healthcare at all due to high rents and bills. Even though I am now eligible for Medicare, I cannot afford to pay extra for needed vision, hearing, and dental, so have had to go without. Previous to my (early) retirement, I was downsized from a permanent job. While temping I was eligible for Medi-CAL, California's so-called healthcare for the poor. After I went on Social Security due to my retirement, they informed me since I was making more now than I was while I was doing temp-work, I had to pay a certain "share" of the costs. This "share" was FAR over my ability to pay. For glaucoma eyedrops I was asked to pay nearly a hundred bucks a month, which I definitely could not come anywhere close to. I need a new hearing aid and dental care too, but would have a difficult time paying anymore than $20 or so a month for insurance/co-pay. The poor pay taxes too, so they should be able to get free healthcare without a lot of red tape and huge co-pays or monthly payments. My Medi-Cal "worker" was not in the least sympathetic nor helpful to me; these people, in my experience, have a mean-spirited, hard-hearted, unsympathetic attitude towards poor people. Votes: +0
