Year in Review from Rich
2011and20122011 was another good year for TRC. We added new staff, made our voice heard through TRC.blog, and unveiled two new products - TeXo and Bracket - that will help researchers find better insights. None of this would have been possible without our loyal clients, who are facing ever more challenging problems and who have been ever so to include us in their internal strategy discussions. This is how market research can be a difference-maker for decision-makers, and for that, I am thankful. In recognition of these great partnerships we have made a donation in our clients' name to the ALS Association.
Thanks again to everyone who has made our success possible. We hope you will have a wonderful holiday and a fantastic 2012.

It certainly is to any individual who suffers from identity theft or some other form of modern-day thievery, but are the numbers being overstated to our detriment? Rich (@TRCRsquared) puts in his two cents, and reflects upon how "extrapolation abuse" can erode everyone's confidence in numbers.  

Overestimating What Others Will Pay
Think you can estimate what people will pay for products and services? Well, you're probably too high. In Rajan's (@Insightologist) most recent post for the Yale Center for Customer Insights (YCCI) he reviews the work of Yale professor Shane Frederick, and points out some useful rules of thumb for conducting pricing work (look to the 25th percentile in the distribution; divide your intuitive estimate by about 1.4).

About ALS and TRC

ALS is of course better known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This disease affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing those afflicted to lose muscle control, leading to paralysis and ultimately death. Sadly, we at TRC became acutely aware of the effects of ALS when the father of one of our staff was diagnosed in 2010 and passed away earlier this year.
